Recent Product Updates - AI Never Has the Final Word

Written by ProctorFree | Oct 5, 2026, 3:20:36 PM

Our next product update and software release goes like on October 12th at 10AM U.S. ET. This is a continuation of our recent work and builds on the biggest update in ProctorFree's history: Desktop Application 5.0.0. Together, these releases make exam day smoother for test takers and give reviewers more visibility. They also put AI to work in proctoring review under one rule we won't bend.

AI never has the final word. Trained reviewers confirm or edit any flagged anomaly before it reaches your report.

What's new

October 2026.10.0 (live October 12)
• Smarter system check. The Desktop Application now warns test takers about background apps that compete for the same resources, such as video conferencing, security or networking tools, before the exam starts.
• Clearer timeout text that matches extended-duration capture.
• Better session visibility for instructors. The exam sessions list now shows a total session count, so sessions hidden by a preselected anomaly filter are never out of sight. Every session and its data stays available for review.
• Filters that follow you. A preselected anomaly filter now carries into the session review page. Every anomaly stays marked and can be toggled back on at any time.
• Audit Queue Timer help text that explains what the timer at the top of the Audit Review Portal measures.
• Refined AI analysis and security compliance updates behind the scenes.

Desktop Application 5.0.0 (August 31)

• A redesigned system check and exam launch, with clearer error messages and step-by-step guidance.
• AI Assisted Proctoring with Human-in-the-Loop review, our first, deliberate step toward AI in the review process (more below).
• An Audit Queue Timer in the Audit Review Portal, so reviewers know how long audits should take.

Earlier this year

• Non-Proctored Secure Browser (April): a locked-down exam environment with no proctoring data capture, a strong alternative to tools like Respondus LockDown Browser.
• Secure Browser Translation Support (June): optional, account-wide translation inside the ProctorFree Secure Browser.
• Moodle Integration Autosync (July): course, exam and user data sync every minute.

AI never has the final word

AI is good at watching hours of video without getting tired. It is not good at knowing why a test taker glanced away, or whether a second voice was a roommate or a coach. That takes human judgment, so we built our AI review around people, not the other way around.

Here's how every opted-in session moves from capture to report:
1. The system analyzes. Video and screenshots from the session are scanned for possible anomalies.
2. A trained reviewer decides. Our human reviewers examine each flag, then confirm it, edit it, or clear it.
3. Only then does it reach you. Nothing the AI flags appears in your reporting until a person has signed off on it.

The AI speeds up the search. The reviewer owns the conclusion. October's analysis refinements make the first step sharper, but they don't change who makes the call.

A few commitments come with it:
• Opt-in only. AI Assisted Proctoring is off by default. Each partner decides whether to turn it on.
• Your data isn't training data. Session video, audio and screenshots are never used to train models.
• No extra cost at this time.

Why it matters

A flag in a proctoring report can affect a grade, a license or a career. That's too much weight for an algorithm to carry alone.

• For institutions: fewer false positives to chase, and every flag in your report has already been checked by a trained person. You can act on it with confidence.
• For test takers: no one is penalized by a machine's guess. A real person looks at the context before anything is reported.
• For reviewers and instructors: this month's session count and persistent filters mean you see exactly what's been flagged, and nothing is ever hidden from you.

Get ready for October 12th

1. Ask test takers to update the ProctorFree Desktop Application before their next major exam.
2. Have them run a Practice Exam so the new system check feels familiar before it counts.
3. Opt in to AI Assisted Proctoring, or ask about the Non-Proctored Secure Browser, by emailing success@proctorfree.com.

The release brings no downtime. If test takers hit a snag, our Live Chat is open 24/7 through the support portal.

We'll keep using AI where it helps. We'll keep people where it counts. Thank you for being a ProctorFree partner.
