ProctorFree Update: A Milestone in Exam Integrity and Test-Taker Experience

We're excited to announce the release of ProctorFree Desktop Application 5.0.0, live as part of our August 2026.8.0 release on August 31, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. ET. This update marks one of the most significant milestones in ProctorFree's history, a redesigned test-taker experience from the moment an exam begins, paired with thoughtfully applied AI-assisted proctoring built around human oversight.

What's changing for test takers: a completely redesigned system check and launch process

Version 5.0.0 introduces a ground-up redesign of the system compatibility check and exam launch flow. The goal was simple: fewer points of confusion, faster resolution when something goes wrong, and a smoother path from "opening the app" to "starting the exam."

That means:

• Better error handling: when an issue is detected during the system check, test takers get clearer, more actionable messaging instead of a generic failure.
• Clearer step-by-step instructions: the launch process now guides users more intuitively through each stage of setup.
• A more polished, modern workflow: the redesign reflects a slicker overall experience, reducing friction right at the moment it matters most: right before an exam starts.

What this means for your team: Test takers will need to update to Desktop Application 5.0.0 to take advantage of these improvements. We strongly encourage you to have your users complete the update before their next major exam, ideally by having them run through a Practice Exam first, so they're comfortable with the refreshed experience ahead of a high-stakes moment.

Introducing AI Assisted Proctoring with Human-in-the-Loop review

This release also marks the first step in an enhanced capability we're rolling out carefully and deliberately: AI Assisted Proctoring with Human-in-the-Loop review.

Here's how it works: when a partner opts in, video and screenshots from a proctoring session are first analyzed by our system. That analysis is then handed to our team of trained human reviewers, who further examine, confirm, and edit any flagged anomalies before they appear in your reporting. The result is a review process that combines the consistency of automated analysis with the judgment and accountability of a human reviewer, AI never has the final word.

A few important notes:

• This is opt-in, not automatic. AI Assisted Proctoring is not enabled by default. Individual partners choose whether to turn it on.
• Your data isn't used to train models. Captured video, audio, and screenshots from your proctoring sessions are not used for model training.
• No additional cost. At this time, this new functionality is offered to partners at no extra charge.

A small but useful addition to the Audit Review Portal

We've added a timer at the top of the Audit Review Portal, giving reviewers a clearer sense of how long to expect for audit completions, a small change aimed at making the review process more predictable for your team.

• Non-Proctored Secure Browser (April 2026) - A secure exam environment without proctoring data capture, similar in spirit to Respondus LockDown Browser. Ask us about special pricing for this proctoring type.
• Secure Browser Translation Support (June 2026) - Optional, account-wide access to translation services directly within the ProctorFree Secure Browser.
• Moodle Integration Autosync (July 2026) - Course, exam, and user data now sync automatically every minute, with manual sync needed only when adding something new, like a fresh exam.
